For our winter exhibition in Chemistry our class project was to study watershed, after a few weeks of getting to know the basics about watersheds we began to work on our semester long project. When first beginning we got an introdurction to the variety of projects we could work on for example their is the 3d building team, website team, 4th grade team and the Elfin Forest team. We then had to create a resume for which job we wanted to work on. I applied for the Elfin Forest team and then after the groups were established within our teams we created more groups of 2-3 people. I decided I wanted to work on researching the animals of Elfin forest, my partner Kelly and I researched about 10 animals, 10 plants and 5 insects. Along with the research we also hand drew watercolor pictures of all the plants, animals and insects.
When beginning the project the hardest part was finding proof that the animals we wanted to research lived in the Elfin Forest. After looking through some documents I came across a list of all the animals, plants and insects. Then from there my partner and I picked the most interesting/ important things we thought we should research. After making the list we split up the work evenly. After having the list together we made an organizer of what we needed to research for each thing; we had to find their scientific name, healthy habitat, and their basic survial needs. For animals we also included their conditions. One of our main focuses for animals was the Steelhead trout because it is endangered so it was really important for us to get the word out there. We wrote much more for the Steelhead trout and we also make a watercolor painting that is around 3x1 feet.
After coming to an end to this project I feel sucessful in everything we learned and accomplished this semester. I am proud of all the work my partner Kelly and I did. This semester long project really did change my thoughts on animals and watersheds. Before beginning the project I didn't really think that dams really affected animals, but after all the research I understand that animals life is more important than our needs..
