Our groups visual was this collage of Sojourner Truth. An African American slave born into slavery in upstate New York in 1797. She was forced by her owner to marry a man who she did not love, then had his children. She escaped in 1826 with her infant daughter leaving behind another daughter and son. A year later when slavery was abolished, she went back to get her children only to find that her son had been sold after the laws had passed. Sojourner Truth is known for being one of the first black women to challenge a white man in the United States Court, she was later reunited with her son. After that she then dedicated her life to become a women's rights activist along with a civil rights activist. She is famously known for her speech "Ain't I A Women" given in Ohio at a Women's Rights convention in 1851. The pictures we added in the collage represent herself, what she did and her legacy. It was also necessary to add a powerful quote by her to show the power of her words. Along with creating this visual we made a performance, our group analyzed Sojourner Truth's Ain't I A Woman speech and created a poem inspired by it. This performance was given along with the presentation. Overall, I enjoyed working on this I like being given the time to learn about specific/ important people in history.
